UNC Final Four

North Carolina (32-4), the champion and top seed of the South Regional, will
make its NCAA-record 18th trip to the Final Four when it faces East Regional
champion Villanova on Saturday night at Ford Field in Detroit. The Tar Heels are in
the Final Four for the second year in a row and the third time in the last five years.
The Tar Heels and Wildcats will play in the second of Saturday’s two national semifinals, slated to
tipoff at aproximately 8:47 p.m. (40 minutes after the conclusion of the Michigan State-Connecticut
game, which will begin at 6:07 p.m.)
The game will be televised nationally by CBS. Jim Nantz and Clark Kellogg will have the call.
Carolina advanced to the Final Four after wins last weekend over Gonzaga (in the Sweet 16) and
Oklahoma (regional final) in Memphis.
The Tar Heels are 12-2 in NCAA Tournament play in the last three seasons, advancing to the Elite
Eight in 2007 and the Final Four in each of the last two years. UNC’s senior class is 12-3 in NCAA
Tournament games in its four seasons and the Tar Heels are 19-4 in the NCAA Tournament under
head coach Roy Williams in his six seasons in Chapel Hill.
Third-seeded Villanova advanced to the Final Four with a 78-76 win over top-seeded Pittsburgh in
the East Regional championship game in Boston last Saturday.
UNC was ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press poll and No. 3 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches
poll prior to the NCAA Tournament. Villanova was No. 11 in the AP poll and No. 12 in the coaches poll
